The new name is....CANCELLED

Sorry folks. Hate to jump out on you just after starting this, but WAR isn't fun to play for me anymore.

Have fun in WAR.

A New Name!

Hi everyone.

It's come to my attention that the name of my blog is already being used somewhere else, and I'm a nice guy, so I am going to change the name. I need your help to come up with a good idea for the blog's name.

I'm thinking of something kind of wacky, but catchy. Something like "Wood Chuck Chucking", but you know, WAR related.

Please leave suggestions as comments!

Oh yeah, here are some threads I've posted in this week:

How many medallions do I need?
Fort Upgrades should cost Ordinance instead of Gold

An Update, A Complaint, and A Hope

Hi everyone. It's been about a week from the last time I posted. I wanted to update everyone on what is going on.

I spent some more time on the Project: Lowbie idea, but I ran into many problems. I would get one-shotted out of nowhere, nobody even attacking me. I'd enter a keep, and just instantly die, without even being attacked (AOE most likely). I don't know if it's possible to complete any ORvR activity at such a low level. I'll post the other pictures I have soon, and decide from there if I want to continue with the project.

I got to Tier 2 with my Squig Herder (Scabz) recently. I love Tier 1, and I want to like Tier 2, but I just can't for multiple reasons.

1) The difficulty has ramped up immensely. In Tier 1, if you were R11, you had an advantage over the R4+, but you didn't one shot them or anything. You had an advantage, but others could still damage you. Even at low levels, you could still contribute to BO capturing. In Tier 2, if you come in at R12, you really don't contribute to anything in any way, unless your a healer (because there is never too many healers). You can't touch champs, you can't tickle the heroes. You barely peck at other players, since so many of them are R17+. Your armor is so weak you die constantly. If your a tank, you can't tank until you gain more ranks.

I remember in Tier 1, how if you were R10-R11, you could possibly solo BOs (depending on class). Even on off-peak times, you could find 1 or 2 more people to go take all the BOs back. In Tier 2, with the Champs/Hero now, you can't do squat without good numbers (5-6 people). If in those 5-6 people, you don't have a good toughness tank (because there are many strength tanks out there), you are going to have a lot of trouble. You don't see the random goofing off in RvR in Tier2. You only go out into RvR lakes if you have a warband to go out with.

The new Keep Upgrades are just staggering in Tier 2. Doors have much more health, yet nobody can afford the ordinance to pay for the improved ram. The enemy is always around the corner, ready to drop endless amounts of oil on your head, and reap massive rewards (for no risk whatsoever) while you try to take down the door and destroy the oil for the 3rd or 4th time. Keeps in Badlands Tier 2 have stayed 100% order since the patch update. It's just not possible to take the keep if there are any defenders.

Between feeling like I am wasting my time on the battlefield, and being low level so my armor/skills don't parallel with others, I am just not having that much fun right now. I think I may go play my R11 Chosen and try to get him to Tier 2 and see if anything improves. I still worry about being focused fired by the millions of bright wizards, engineers, and sometimes shadow warriors before I actually accomplish anything.

Wish me luck.

Operation: Lowbie - Day 1

Hi everyone. TGIF...or was F...either way, I found some time on the glorious day that is Friday to start my little project.

I made a fresh character. Here are the statistics:

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

Name: Lowbie (who wudda thunk, rite?)
Race: Greenskin
Server: Badlands

I chose Shaman for a few reasons.
  1. Shaman's are small. Being small on the battlefield means that I might not be noticed as much. That means that I might have an extra second added to my average lifespan.
  2. Healers are a great class to play as from range. MDPS/Tanks have to be right in the middle of combat to do their job, which leaves you open to AOE of any kind. Ranged/Magic damage the opponent so the enemy player or NPC is going to target you sooner than later to shut you up. All healers have to worry about is pulling aggro, and in RvR, that doesn't happen (unless your playing the RvE keep-swap game).
  3. I wanted to roll a Shaman because I feel the proposed changes on the Shaman/Archmage on the official forums is a good idea and can't wait to test it out.
  4. I love Greenskin. They are my favorite race in the game. The best combination of looks/jobs. They are hilarious too!
So I started off my journey Friday afternoon. I waited around in the original spawn for a few minutes, hoping to see the RvR signal light up, so I could instantly teleport to the warcamp, but alas it did not. What did happen was that the Destruction in Tier 1 had captured all of the BOs in the area, and all Destruction got a RP boost. So, before even completing the first quest, I was already RR2.

Let me diverge of a second. Isn't the RR capped by the Rank? Is Rank 1 special, that it doesn't cap your RR? If so, that could be a cute new project for me after this one is over, to see how high of a RR I could get while still Rank 1.

After the RP boost, it made sense that the RvR icon probably wouldn't be flashing up, so I decided to just head in the direction of the Warcamp and if it flashes, I can instantly teleport the rest of the way.

For the most part, the travel was easy, with very few threats. Around one of the Ch. 2 PQs, I encounter a passageway that had to be traveled to get through, and ran into a NPC that hit me a few times. He didn't do that much damage, and I threw up the small heal I had on myself afterwards and got out of there pretty quickly.

Around the time I got to Ch. 3 Greenskin, I noticed that there was a cave full of spiders between me and the Warcamp, and I couldn't risk being attacked in a cave because there would be very few places to run to safely without aggroing even more spiders. So I needed to find a way around that. I decided I was going to run around the mountain, into the RvR area, and then head towards the warcamp from there. The only obstacle was that the huge Ch. 3 PQ that was going on right in front of me. If I wanted to get around the mountain, I had to skirt past the Order side of the battle. I did so, and aggro'd a shooter of some kind, and he did some decent damage to me before I got away. Thankfully, I didn't die and got to a safe point and healed up.

I was sitting there, healing up, next to a hill when I saw the slope of the hill and though, "Why don't I just go to the top of the mountain and run to the warcamp?". I had done this before on an Order character, trying to pull the NPCs out of the Greenskin Warcamp to kill. So I ran up the hill, and got to the top of the mountain pretty quickly, and ran to the Warcamp.

YAY! Made it to the warcamp without dying! Part 1 was done, and I just had to follow the next step, get to the main city.

Expect more from me by Monday. I'm pretty busy on the weekends, minus the time before Noon on Saturday.

Thanks for visiting!

Operation: Lowbie

Hello everyone,

This is the project I mentioned in the previous post. It's a project that just popped into my head recently and since I will be out of school next week due to Spring Break, I thought it might be a good idea to see what I can get done in that week.

OPERATION: LOWBIE

So the whole idea of the project came about when I was thinking about how I dislike how the renown level is capped by the rank level. I have a lot of alts in Tier 1, and I love to jump right into RvR as soon as possible. It's aggrevating to do that, and have to leave RvR lakes to go to PvE quests so that I can level and gain more renown points.

I thought about a way to fix the system, which was to allow renown rank to only be capped by what tier your rank level fits in. So any characters rank 1-11 could gain renown points until RR11, even if they were still rank 1. I don't think this would cause any problems, as all renown gear have rank requirements too. This change wouldn't be as noticable in later tiers, as it takes much longer to gain renown (I assume) and that your renown might not always be capped like it is in the lower tiers.

I thought about how it is hard to gain good exp in RvR-based PvE. Much of T1 is just running around capturing BOs, with a few skermishes happening in Empire/Chaos area. Minus the few enemy player kills, the most exp you get from taking BOs is 400exp before and after captures. 400exp gets you nowhere near gaining a rank, unless your rank 1 or 2.

I wondered how much exp people get in T4 RvR and if it is a drop in a bucket like it is in the lower tiers. The only time when it might be good experience is if you were coming from a lower tier. That sounded feasible; coming from a lower tier and participating in RvR in higher tiers to gain more exp. I wonder how far you could push that. It sounded like a fun idea, so I thought I'd develop it into a project.

Operation: Lowbie

Operation: Lowbie will be a project of mine where I take a freshly made character, get him to Tier 4 and participate in Tier 4 RvR. I am going to see how much exp and renown I can get before it gets too boring to continue on. There will be problems I will have to overcome, like being incredibly weak on the battlefield, and being killed whenever any wind passes by. But hopefully I gain a lot of knowledge of how Tier 4 RvR works and maybe can walk away with some good exp/rp and a few cool items (that I can't use for another 30+ levels).

I am going to try to take some screenshots while on my journey and during my battles. I'll try not to take too many of me dead on the ground.

Strategy

The current plan of attack is to start out in the starting area, and wait for the War Signal to light up, and then instantly teleport to the Warcamp. From there, I will fly to the main city, and then head out of the city into the RvR areas around the main city. While I am in the RvR areas, there shouldn't be much NPCs to dodge, so I should be safe.

I'm going to be wearing now armor whatsoever. To me, this makes sense. My rank 1 armor isn't going to make any difference anyways. And I can get some cool naked achievements at the same time.

I'll download an addon that can keep track of my total exp each day/overall and post my results here on this blog.

I hope to have more projects like this in the future.

Long Live the Age of Blogging!

Hello everyone

Hello, this is probably the first time you've been on this blog. I've been throwing around the whole of idea of a blog for a long time. I visit multiple WAR blogs and absolutely love the whole blogging environment around the game. There is a lot of support for WAR blogs, much of it coming from the actual developers of the game.

I decided to start writing some posts on this blog because a little project I am working on during Spring Break. The project is entitled, Operation: Lowbie. I will address it in the next post.

To conclude, I want to thank Mythic for creating a great game, which isn't perfect but is still a lot of fun to play. I want to thank all the other bloggers out there for creating an environment where every WAR player is supported to blog to their heart's desire.

Here's hoping for the best!
